Nelson Mandela International Day–2026 Commemoration

A group of students from Mahavir Senior Model School, accompanied by Mrs. Aruna Malhotra, participated in the Nelson Mandela International Day- 2026 commemoration, marking Madiba’s 108th Birth Anniversary, held at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The programme was jointly organised by the India International Centre (IIC), Gandhi Yuva Baradari, the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) for India and Bhutan, and the Working Group on Alternative Strategies.
The event featured soulful musical renditions by school choirs and captivating cultural performances by students from various schools across Delhi NCR. Through music and dance, the participants beautifully portrayed the values of humanity, compassion, and peace, while highlighting the timeless teachings of Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi, inspiring everyone to remain humble, empathetic, and committed to the welfare of society. The main programme, “Mandela Katha Mala,” was centred on Nelson Mandela’s vision of eradicating poverty through justice, equality, and collective responsibility rather than charity.
One of the most engaging segments of the programme was the interactive open-house discussion, during which students from schools across Delhi NCR interacted virtually with students from the 1860 Heritage Centre, Durban, South Africa, including participants from Northwood Boys’ High School and Northwood School for Girls. This meaningful exchange enabled students to gain deeper insights into Nelson Mandela’s life, legacy, and enduring influence while fostering cross-cultural understanding and global citizenship.
